What is Chelation Therapy?
Chelation therapy has been traditionally used for removing heavy toxic metals, such as mercury or lead, from blood. Although chelation was originally used to treat conditions like lead poisoning, growing research studies show that chelation therapy can also help to treat many other conditions and diseases, including:
During a chelation therapy session, a chemical substance—the most common being ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA)— is introduced into the body via intravenous (IV) drip. Once it enters the bloodstream, the chelating agent (EDTA) binds to metals and/or minerals and then flushes them out of the body via urine. Not only is chelation therapy safe and effective, but it is also a recognized treatment for the removal of lead by the FDA (Food & Drug Administration).

Chelation Therapy for Heart Disease: How Does It Help?
Chelation therapy has been shown to treat atherosclerosis, the buildup of plaque in arteries that contributes to heart attacks, strokes, angina (chest pain), and high blood pressure. Over time, it can lead to heart disease. The chelation agent (usually EDTA) binds to calcium found in the plaque, which helps to loosen and remove the buildup. This removal may help lower blood pressure, which in turn can reduce the risk of both heart attacks and strokes.
Research on the Benefits of Chelation Therapy
TACT (Trial to Assess Chelation Therapy), a study done by the National Institute of Health (NIH) was the first large-scale study designed to determine the safety and efficacy of EDTA chelation therapy for people who have suffered a heart attack. The results, published in the March 27, 2013, issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association, were groundbreaking —chelation therapy helped reduce the risk of heart attacks, deaths, strokes and other cardiovascular problems by 18% in those with a history of heart attacks and over 39% for diabetics, citing a “modest reduction in cardiovascular events.” In another report published, researchers found clear benefits of chelation in patients with cardiovascular disease and diabetes. According to another study, it was demonstrated that there was evidence that chelation therapy may be beneficial to people who have suffered a heart attack.
