A Safer Path: GLP1 Weight Loss and Diabetes Medications Risks
Weight Loss Alternatives & Considerations & Warnings About The Newest GLP1 Most Expensive Weight Loss & Diabetes Medications; There Must Be A Safer Path
by Dr. Rafael F. Cruz MD Practicing Physician and Medical Journalist
The NEWEST prescription GLP1 medications [have serious risks] for type 2 diabetes and weight loss have been described as lifesaving to those who are overweight or have diabetes. Most people tolerate them well but have manufacturers hidden some of the nasty side effects? YES, they have. There is even talk brewing of a class action lawsuit. The question for the public is are the benefits worth the risks? We bring this up because more and more of our patients keep reporting that a friend or family member has experienced one of the listed side effects. At Kentuckiana Integrative Medicine we remain loyal and partial to our long-standing programs:
- Phentermine [Adipex]
- Dr. Cruz HCG Weight Loss and Lifestyle Program
- Weight Loss Drop Program
These lifestyle and weight loss programs have a long-standing success and safety record and affordable price point that from our perspective is far better than the GLP1 family of Semaglutide and Mongero.
YOU DECIDE if GLP1s are Worth the Risk
The adverse effects of the newest prescription diabetes weight loss medications [GLP!1 Medications] for some individuals are becoming a nightmare and for some a persistent nightmare because for some individuals the HARMFUL SIDE EFFECTS CONTINUE EVEN AFTER THE MEDICATION IS STOPPED! GLP1 medications are literally made from snake venom. Snakes need slow digestion since they do not often catch their food. Slowing our digestion as much as a snake can cause serious problems in some individuals.
Some people have had non stop vomiting even after they stopped the medication. Others have had bowel obstruction or blockage which required surgery. This makes sense since the medication works by slowing down your gut motility or movement keeping food in the gut longer thus suppressing appetite. Thankfully this is only true for a minority of patients, but the risks are extremely high.
The research studies were only done on mice and it was discovered that the mice had a higher incidence of thyroid cancer. If the mice had a higher incidence of thyroid cancer, it’s possible that we as humans may have a higher incidence of thyroid cancer and other types of cancer.
Scary Side Effects:
Side effects of these medications can be extreme. Side effects can range from mild and infrequent gastrointestinal (GI) disturbances like heartburn, diarrhea and constipation, to inflammation of the pancreas or painful PANCREATITIS, which can be very painful and may require hospitalization.
One of our patients on these types of medication could not drink more than 4 ounces of water PER DAY, otherwise she would throw up. We all know that living on 4 ounces of water you are creating dehydration and dis-ease like headaches and worse. She finally stopped after 6 months of this torture. Weight loss results in 6 months 15-20 lbs. so not that impressive. The advertising hype is much more pronounced than the weight loss results for most patients.
Other adverse effects include an increased risk of deadly pancreatic cancer, thyroid tumors and thyroid cancer, and diabetic retinopathy (blindness).
The list includes serious allergic reactions, kidney failure, gallbladder problems, heart palpitations, chest pain, and even reports of suicide.
Wow, can you imagine someone loses 50lbs, then gets depressed and writes a suicide letter. “I looked better heavy; I am so depressed I decided to end it all.”
More Worrisome Side Effects:
GI Issues—One of the most reported side effects is GI problems especially heartburn so if you already have reflux – heartburn do not bother trying this type of medication. Non-Stop vomiting after Stopping the medication. In essence you may develop “Irritable Bowel Syndrome.”
People have reported severe nausea and that they cannot stop vomiting even after stopping the medication. Some continue to experience continuous vomiting even MANY MONTHS after STOPPING use of these medications. The medical term for this is intractable vomiting. Some experience abdominal cramping – pain or diarrhea or constipation.
Some users can also experience a 3X higher rate of GASTROPARESIS = stomach paralysis, and 4X higher incidence of BOWEL OBSTRUCTION intestinal blockages, requiring emergency surgery.
Because of the slow digestion and delayed emptying of stomach contents, due to these medications’ primary effect of delayed GI food transit, anesthesiologists are reporting a universally feared complication: STOMACH ACID & FOOD IN THE LUNGS. Surgical patients are accidentally regurgitating and inhaling stomach contents into their Lungs, despite pre-surgery fasting.
STOMACH FOOD and ACID IN THE LUNGS can lead to fatal pneumonia.
If you are USING GLP1 MEDICATIONS STOP them at least ONE week BEFORE an elective surgery and hope and pray you never need emergency surgery for, say a bone fracture.
Acid in your lungs is never good.
Endocrine Blood Sugar Problems Hypoglycemia—LOW BLOOD SUGAR
These medications lower blood sugar levels—that’s how they help to bring about weight loss. However, the problem is that this can easily turn into hypoglycemia, which is very low blood sugar. LOW BLOOD SUGAR symptoms may include dizziness, confusion, loss of balance, fainting, seizures which can lead to falls and injuries like hip fractures.
Pancreatitis—Reports show a 9X increased risk of pancreatitis, which can lead to pancreatic cancer. This life-threatening condition causes severe inflammation and pain in the pancreas and can lead to long-term digestive issues and cancer. Pancreatic cancer is often deadly, and people are generally given less than a year to live, once diagnosed. The risk of thyroid cancer is also significantly elevated.
Cardiovascular Problems— users of these medications have also reported heart palpitations, chest pain, electrolyte disturbances, although the long-term effects on cardiovascular health are supposed to be positive. Even if there is a protective effect on the heart, the other serious side effects like deadly cancer do not appear to outweigh the risks if you happen to be on the unlucky side.
Some studies are demonstrating that long term users are developing sarcopenia [muscle wasting and skeletal bone weakness.]
Psychiatric problems: Some GLP1 users develop symptoms of depression and suicidal thinking. If you develop these symptoms anytime after starting a GLP1 medication STOP using it and contact your physician.
PREMATURE AGING: In addition to the more serious side effects, many users develop a gaunt empty face appearance “GLP1 flat face” and or “GLP1 flat butt”. The dramatic weight loss in these areas results in loose, dry, wrinkly, sagging skin making people
LOOK MUCH OLDER.
If you want to use GLP1 medications use them for NO MORE than 3-6 months.
With these many potential risks our tried-and-true weight loss programs appear to be a safer and more effective consideration.
