Can Heart Disease Be Reversed With Non-Surgical Heart Therapy in the Louisville Kentuckiana Area? YES
Regenerative Medicine by Dr. Rafael F. Cruz MD who has practiced medicine for 30+ years and is a physician educator researcher and inventor of Cruz Cric.
Dr. Rafael F. Cruz, MD board certified in Emergency Medicine twice, practiced Emergency Medicine for approximately 10 years. He received 2 years of anesthesia training with a focus on pain procedures at University of Louisville, and then he shifted his medical focus for the past 20 years to Integrative, Functional and Regenerative Medicine. The goal is optimal management and prevention of acute and chronic disease challenges.
Dr. Cruz is a founding member and fellow of the American Academy of Ozone Therapists and trained in IV Vitamin Therapy and IV Chelation via ACAM.org. ACAM is the American College for the Advancement in Medicine. He also trained at The Riordan Clinic in Wichita, Kansas on the uses of complementary IV Vitamin C and IV Ozone to help Cancer patients and those struggling with chronic immune dysfunction, like individuals with life syndrome. Dr. Cruz is a full-time clinician, educator, medical writer, student of medicine – life and an inventor of “cruzcric”, the only pocket emergency surgical airway device.
Dr. Cruz leads Kentuckiana Integrative Medicine, which follows a philosophy of combining the best of conventional modern medicine with natural integrative therapies. He is well known for his meticulous evaluations, collaborative therapies with primary and specialist providers, and image-guided precision with injured soft tissues: tendon injuries, shoulder rotator cuff tears, arthritic spines, joints, and ligaments. His services extend beyond musculoskeletal concerns to complex neurological and cardiovascular issues, hormone optimization and sexual wellness, support for sexual dysfunction and stress urinary continence, medical weight loss, and other specialized therapies. The clinic’s personalized plans and compassion are highly regarded by patients. Kentuckiana Integrative Medicine is a regenerative medicine clinic that has been providing regenerative therapies in Louisville and the wider Kentuckiana area for more than 20 years.
Heart disease is still among the top primary causes of death in the US, and many people want to know if they can get better without having to undergo major heart bypass surgery or heart stents. At Kentuckiana Integrative Medicine, our team focuses on providing complete cardiac support through a structured plan of IV therapies, nutrition, and lifestyle changes. We do NOT say we can cure you; instead, we want to help you stabilize your symptoms, improve your circulation, energy levels, and to help optimize your care in conjunction with your doctors. The clinic’s approach is based on 30+ years of clinical experience and research, such as the NIH-funded TACT study. Our non-surgical heart therapy is a thoughtful way for individuals to find a path to health that complements and enhances standard care approaches.
Regenerative medicine has provided many of our patients, including those with severe cases of bone-on-bone arthritis, with an avenue of much-needed pain relief and, in many cases, a restoration of the life activities they love.

Who Benefits From A Conservative Heart Program?
Many people who have stable symptoms and are not candidates for more invasive procedures or those with small heart vessel disease, as well as those recovering from previous cardiac events, who are seeking additional support. Research indicates that patients with diabetes may also benefit from risk-reduction strategies. We work closely to monitor, diagnose and support patient health goals with complementary therapies such as lifestyle modification, IV Plaquex and IV Chelation.
What “reversal” looks like in real life?
In practice, “reversal’ can be defined as slowing disease progression, improving function, and reducing symptoms. We monitor changes in energy levels, recovery time, fatigue, walking distance, exercise tolerance and chest tightness after exercise, as well as trends in cardiology and lab reports. These therapies are designed to help the body heal itself, not to replace prescribed medication or your cardiologist. We have demonstrated the reversal of heart disease using repeat cardiac catherization studies and repeat Heart plaque calcium scores, which have been lowered from 500 to 15 with an average of 60% reduction with 40 IV therapies. Patients with symptoms of chest pain or shortness of breath usually report relief of these symptoms after 10-20 IV Infusions.
Therapies Used At Kentuckiana Integrative Medicine
A core cardiovascular program can include IV EDTA chelation (with or without Plaquex), IV Vitamin C and IV Ozone. It may also include nutritional improvements, targeted supplements, and progressive exercise. EDTA chelation is a method that helps the body bind metals and eliminate them. Long-term exposure to lead and cadmium, for example, has been associated with increased cardiovascular risk and cancer. The TACT study used a 40-infusion protocol for patients who had a previous heart attack. It observed a statistically significant reduction in the composite endpoint of repeat heart attack, stroke and or death.
Chelation Therapy uses an amino acid, EDTA, in a solution containing vitamins and minerals to attach to heavy metals. They are then filtered out of the body through the kidneys in urine. Some integrative doctors have used chelation for over forty years to reduce symptoms such as heavy metal toxicity and heart disease. Chelation is intended to remove toxic metals, which are believed to have the potential to help the body reduce heart attacks, cardiac deaths, and the need for bypass surgeries and stents.
We use chelation as part of a structured therapy plan with sessions scheduled on a weekly basis during the initial phase. We also provide individualized dosages that consider kidney function and general health. Plaquex is a phospholipid that supports cellular membranes. Vitamin C provides antioxidant support. Ozone can be used to modulate the redox balance in an integrative setting. The benefits of these IV therapies can be compounded by combining them with plant-forward nutritional practices, reduced sugar consumption, hydration and restorative sleep.
Hear for yourself what patients are saying. Below, find videos in which patients discuss their experience with Chelation Therapy.
Mr. McCawley describes the transformation of his daily life and heart health that chelation therapy brought about. Mr. McCawley struggled with persistent brain fog and heart disease and was unable to cut his own lawn or climb stairs even after multiple heart stents. His symptoms improved so much after therapy that he quit his engineering job. He can now handle stairs, cut his own lawn, and has launched a landscaping company.

Sol Arledge – How Chelation Resolved My Atrial Fibrillation
Ron Laughlin shared that a commercial vascular screen revealed a severely blocked carotid artery. Ron Laughlin, who wanted to avoid surgery immediately, began therapy at Kentuckiana Integrative Medicine with Dr. Cruz. He received approximately 20 IV chelation therapy and about 10 sessions of IV Plaquex. Upon rescreening, his carotid artery blockage was reduced from “critical” to “moderate.” He also reported improved energy and memory. Dr. Cruz said that patients with similar conditions benefit from increased blood flow to heart and brain. Most patients complete 40 IV chelation sessions.
Greg Sanders from Mississippi, with a history of heart disease and high blood pressure, was unable to walk 20 feet without shortness of breath or chest tightness. Now he is able to exercise without chest pain or shortness of breath after IV chelation and IV Plaquex for his heart disease.

Progress is monitored through symptom journaling and functional measures, such as walking distance and ability to climb stairs. Relevant lab results are tracked, and care is coordinated with your cardiologist for imaging studies and follow-up evaluations. Weekly visits in the first phase ensure continuity and allow adjustments to be made based on tolerance. Patients often switch to less frequent maintenance IVs after the initial sequence while maintaining the same lifestyle principles. Durable outcomes are most often achieved when IV therapy is reinforced by consistent lifestyle practices, including nutrient dense, low glycemic food dietary intake, regular movement, stress management strategies, and proper sleep hygiene.
Every candidate undergoes a medical evaluation and labs before therapy. Sessions are provided under physician oversight, with dosing tailored to the individual. Therapies should continue unless your prescribing clinician changes them. We encourage routine cardiology care for blood pressure, lipid, and glucose management. Our aim is to help you feel and function better through steady, coordinated steps rather than quick fixes. For patients who value structure, a weekly schedule often supports the integration of healthy lifestyle changes.
NOTE – Chelation is rarely available in Kentucky since it was declared ILLEGAL in KY and three other states. Very few clinics in Indiana offer IV Chelation.
Dr. Rafael F. Cruz, MD of Kentuckiana Integrative Medicine, has been providing IV Chelation therapy in Kentuckiana for 20+ years. He is following in the footsteps of Dr. George Wolverton, MD, a Pioneer of Integrative Medicine in Kentuckiana, who was one of the first physicians to introduce IV Chelation to Kentuckiana. We remain the most experienced clinic in the area for complex medical challenges, where many are finding no answers via traditional medical channels. We hope you will share our information with the individuals you care about.
REGRETABLY INSURANCE CANNOT BE ACCEPTED as these therapies are NOT FDA approved, NOT covered by insurance who considers these therapies “experimental” in nature despite the wonderful evidence of tremendous benefits. Insurance pays only for conventional modern medicine. Strategies are considered experimental and not conventional. The approximate cost of the therapy for a full series of Heart IV Therapy is between $4,000 and $8,000, depending on the patient’s condition. IV Plaquex therapy costs $170, and IV chelation therapy costs $140. For most individuals $4,000 to $8,000 is a very reasonable investment in their health, as that is the sum spent on one vacation in many cases. We are very competitive as far as fees, as many clinics charge 2-4x more than we do.
Can Heart Disease Be Reversed With This Approach?
When a structured regimen of IV therapy and lifestyle changes is consistently followed, it is possible to see significant improvements in symptoms, strength, reduction of plaque blockage narrowing and quality of life. In many cases, risk markers will stabilize and show a positive trend. Others experience a gradual improvement in their functional abilities over several months. Some notice better energy levels and fewer symptomatic flare-ups. We encourage you to work to prioritize your health and be clear about your goals. Most patients are pleased with the transparency and benefits of our therapies. Those with diabetes or other risk factors for cardiovascular diseases may be more motivated to consider non-surgical heart therapies in Louisville, Kentuckiana.
